When the Muskegon Area District Library was formed the Director, Elizabeth Winche, would only acknowledge the municipality leadership where the library building was located. For us, that meant the Village of Fruitport Council. In the past the Village and the Township finanically supported the library and appointed a Library Board to run the affairs of the library in regards to the building and grounds. Because Ms. Winche would not acknowledge Fruitport Townshipm the Village government made the following decision:
I move the Village of Fruitport continue to usethe local Village of Fruitport/Fruitport Charter Township Library Board to run the Fruitport District Library Branch. This local library board will be known as The Fruitport District Library Committee and will consist of six members:
3 appointed members from the Township of Fruitport
3 appointed members from the Village of Fruitport Council-one of whom shall be an elected Village Council Member.
This committee will negotiate with Muskegon Area District Library Board the lease agreement for library facilities and continue the other past functions/responibilities of the prior local library board.
