FRUITPORTY CHARTER TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES

PROPOSED MEETING MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 9, 2009 

A work session of the Fruitport Charter Township Board began at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2009, in the township board room. 

Members Present:  Brian Werschem, Supervisor;   Carol Hulka, Clerk;  Rose Dillon, Treasurer; Trustees  Ron Becklin, David Markgraf,  Marjorie Nash, and Chuck Whitlow.  Members Absent:  None 

At 7:00 p.m., Supervisor Werschem open the regular meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance followed with a prayer.

Also Present: 5-township residents, 3-township employees, and Muskegon Chronicle reporter, Gaertner  

 The board meeting minutes of January 26, 2009, regular meeting, were approved, as presented The board meeting agenda for February 9, 2009, was approved as presented.

  CORRESPONDENCE / REPORTS

The following committee meeting minutes were presented:  For January - Parks and Recreation, and Planning Commission, For February- Cemetery and DPW 

 Fruitport Township Police Department has been awarded a Federal grant to cover Cell Phone Forensics  training held in Atlanta, Georgia. Expenses in the amount of $2,195.00 were covered in sending Detective Bruce Morningstar to the conference at no cost to the Township. 

 Correspondence dated January 26, 2009, regarding Norton Shores and Fruitport Township versus the City of Muskegon Heights was presented. Copies of letters were presented which were written by township attorney, Harry Knudsen, and were sent to U.S. Senator Carl Levin and U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, asking their help in including sewage projects— in the Village of Fruitport  and Township of Fruitport—in the stimulus bill coming before the senate.

09-25  2009 Membership in Call “2-1-1” Access Line

Call 2-1-1 is a 24 hour, 7 days a week link to health and human services.  Currently the city of Norton Shores, the city of Muskegon, and the township of Fruitport are the only municipalities in Muskegon County who have contributed $2,500 in membership fees.   The motion by Chuck Whitlow, seconded by Dave Markgraf, was carried unanimously, to postpone deciding on the 2009 membership in Call “2-1-1- Access Line until the 2009-2010 budget is looked over.  

NEW BUSINESS 

 09-26  Payment of BillsMarjorie Nash moved, Carol Hulka seconded, MOTION CARRIED, to approve bills in the following amounts: General Fund:  $47,484.76;   Public Safety: $14,044.47; Water: $3,153.38;  Sewer: $8,278.17    Parks:  $40.30             Total $73,001.08 

 Ayes:  Nash, Becklin, Hulka, Werschem, Markgraf,  Whitlow    Nays:  None  

ADDITIONAL REPORTS  

Fire Chief Doctor reported that the aerial fire truck is in need of repair at the cost of $15,870.00 

The proposed 2009-2010 budgets were given out for discussion at the next meeting.
